A Bit About Me and My Approach

I have been practicing divorce and family law in Oregon for over 26 years.  I have handled family law cases all over the Willamette Valley and in more than 15 counties in Oregon.   I have specialized in divorce and family law my entire career.  In 2007 I began providing mediation services  to lawyers and unrepresented parties.  I have handled hundreds of mediations over this time.  My mediations range from unrepresented parties in a divorce case who come to mediation to avoid hiring two lawyers to "fight" over the divorce to contested divorce cases where the attorneys hire me to mediate their case to avoid a trial.  I have mediated cases for the circuit court and I have mediated cases for the Oregon Court of Appeals appellate program.

I have found that there are not many good options for divorce mediators in the Willamette Valley.  Some mediators lack the legal knowledge and experience to effectively help parties get their case resolved in a fair and equitable manner.   I have personally sent my client's to mediators who end up conducting session after session over months that ultimately lead to no final agreement.

My mediations are more focused on getting the case resolved in as an efficient a manner as possible.  In my experience most parties who are looking for mediation want to get the case resolved without wasting their money on lawyers in the traditional adversarial process that takes a long time and costs quite a bit of money.

My approach is to assist the parties to reach a fair and equitable resolution that is within the range of what a court would ultimately decide based upon the circumstances.    I still represent parties in a large number of contested family law and divorce cases every year as I have for 26+ years.  That continued experience overtime has given me a very good sense of likely outcomes and what legal positions are unlikely to be successful.  All of this  experience helps me in guiding the parties to a final settlement that they both agree upon.
